Welcome to OpenPomo

OpenPomo is a free, open-source focus application built around the Pomodoro Technique. The project is actively being developed to provide a seamless, synchronized experience across all major desktop, mobile, and web platforms.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. Each interval is known as a pomodoro.

The Core Cycle

The technique relies on a structured cadence to maintain peak cognitive focus while systematically preventing mental fatigue. The standard workflow follows these steps:

  1. Choose a Task: Select a specific, actionable item from your backlog.
  2. Set the Timer: Start a 25-minute countdown (one Pomodoro).
  3. Deep Work: Focus exclusively on the chosen task until the timer rings. Context switching and external interruptions must be avoided.
  4. Short Break: Step away from your workspace for 5 minutes.
  5. Long Break: After completing four consecutive Pomodoros, take a longer, restorative break of 15 to 30 minutes to fully reset before the next cycle.

This rhythmic approach enforces bounded work sessions, making large tasks more approachable and mitigating procrastination.
